March 13, 1964; 3:15am.

Kitty Genovese spotted a guy waiting in the darkness as she walked from the parking lot to her block. She ran, but he was faster.

Stabbed repeatedly, Kitty screamed “Oh my God! He stabbed me! Please help me!” But no one came to her aid. The man left her crawling into the entryway, but then returned only to rape and stab her to death.

The entire tragedy took nearly 30minutes. A police investigation determined that at least 38 people heard or watched some part of the fatal attack from their apartment windows.
They turned on their lights and opened windows to look at the struggle going on below.

NOT ONE OF THESE PEOPLE called the cop until after the attack was over.
Their excuses?
“I thought someone else did.”
“I didn’t want to get involve.”
“I was tired.”
“I thought it was a lover’s spat.”
